Here's a quote we would like to share with you on this one day of the year when we are all allowed to have some fun and be a little "foolish:"
"If people did not sometimes do silly things, nothing intelligent would get done." -- Ludwig Wittgenstein
We firmly believe in the power of allowing ourselves the ability to "wish for the moon." And that only in really stretching, sometimes to the point of absurdity or "foolishness" can we conceive of something so new it could really change the game.
To that end, we've decided to "sponsor" April Fools' day, and to encourage everyone we know to take a 15 minute break from the mundane, the predictable, and the comfortable. Take a peak at our video below. Then, alone, or with someone else, challenge yourself with a stretch goal for really improving your business or your life. Play with a toy, draw a picture, do something childlike and let yourself go. Write down a few absurd/foolish wishes toward your goal. Stretch yourself, don't stop until you have a couple of really out-there wishes. As Albert Einstein once said, "if at first, the idea is not absurd, then there's no hope for it."
Then pick one that makes you uncomfortable, and seems unreachable. Problem-solve it into something that, with an effort, you could achieve and it would make a real difference. Then go do it!
Innovation doesn't always have to start with a team in a room with some facilitators. Let's make April Fools' Day the one day of the year for individual effort. A day when we stop worrying about appearing foolish and really reach for the moon. Let's all be April Fools! 15 minutes. Give it a try.
And please share one or two of your stretchy wishes in the comments section below. We'd love to hear some of your more "foolish" ideas!
